We Hear: Lamborghini Working on Electric Hypercar

Porsche may not be the only Volkswagen Group brand working on electric sports cars. A new video report from AutoBild says that Lamborghini is working on a new electric hypercar dubbed the Vitola. According to the report, the Vitola will make use of the scalable J1 architecture that underpins the Porsche Mission E, as well as its integrated fast-charging system.

The German-language report says that the Vitola will be capable of hitting 62 mph in 2.5 seconds, slightly faster than the Aventador SV, and have a top speed of at least 186 mph. The Mission E, which has been confirmed for production, makes the equivalent of 600 hp from a pair of electric motors and has a claimed 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds, meaning that Lamborghini has to find a full second of speed.

With the Aventador SV making a massive 740 hp, the Vitola could end up pushing 800 hp or more if it gets approved. As it’s almost certain to be a limited-edition project like the Centenario or Sesto Elemento, the price will likely have two commas.

Regardless of the performance or styling, an electric vehicle would be a radical departure for Lamborghini, which is known for making supercars that are heard as well as seen.
