On this episode of “The Racing Line,” pro driver and Motor Trend hot shoe Randy Pobst explores the fastest driving technique around the race track; smooth or aggressive.
Pobst begins the discussion by using dating examples to illustrate the difference between being too safe and striking out, being smooth and successful, and aggressive and getting slapped. Next, Pobst heads to the race track in a pair of Mazda Miata spec racers to see which driving style produces a faster lap.
With the spec Miatas lined up at the starting line, Pobst waves them off one at a time to see which driving style is faster around the track. BFGoodrich test driver Mike “Junior” Johnson hits the track with the smooth driving style, while Pobst – sporting a rock & roll wig and an attitude – takes off a few seconds behind driving aggressively.
After finding out the results, Pobst and Johnson sit down and discuss the differences between the two driving styles. Check out the video below to see which driving technique produces the fastest lap time.
