Roadkill Rescues 1956 Buick Century From a Thorny Grave (W/Video)

The Roadkill guys have taken on some daunting projects before, but this one might be their most ambitious yet. On this episode, hosts David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan visit a junkyard in the Tennessee backwoods in hopes of finding a rusty classic they can get running and drive home. Things don’t quite go according to plan, but they do find plenty of rust.

The hosts find some unique vehicles rotting away in the roadside junkyard, including a ’41 Nash and a 1940s Crosley sedan, but nothing is in good enough shape to get running again. Out of options, the duo decides to take the body off a C3 Chevrolet Corvette and attach C1 Corvette body panels to the frame. The hosts enlist the help of one of Finnegan’s friends and get to work, spending two days separating the C3 body from the chassis. But just as they’re about to finish, they realize what a bad idea it is. They instead hatch another genius scheme: find the toastiest body they can to join with the Corvette frame. They settle on a 1956 Buick Century that’s completely hidden beneath thorny overgrowth. Because Roadkill.

Before the hosts can pull the Buick out, they need to cut back the bushes using machetes, a chainsaw, and a weed-whacker. They then source a used Chevy 350 V-8 engine from a local speed shop, mount it in the chassis, and tow both wrecks to Finnegan’s house. There, they find out just how bad the Buick is and learn that its wheelbase is a whole 2 feet longer than the Corvette’s, meaning the frame will need to be lengthened. In true Roadkill fashion, plan A doesn’t pan out. But plan B ends up being pretty cool.

See how this project turns out in the episode below.
