This Brabus is a Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabriolet on Steroids

Are you the almost-happy owner of a shiny new Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabriolet? If you are one of those maniacs who isn’t content with the mighty 577 hp and 664 lb-ft graciously provided by the hard-working 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 under the hood, Brabus has the solution, given you have both the coin and the bravery. Making its debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabriolet claims to be the fastest, most powerful four-seat cabriolet in the world.

Let’s get it out of the way; the Brabus-ized S63 Cabriolet puts down 838 hp and 848 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. That’s a substantial upgrade from the already bonkers 577 hp, and more than any lone human needs access to. However, if you have planets that need restarting, petrified wood to grind up, or skyscrapers that need shifting, Brabus will cheerfully upgrade your existing S63 Cab or procure one for you, with a 62,000-mile warranty to boot.

To achieve such chest-compressing figures, Brabus stuffs a whole heap of go-fast goodies under the sculpted German bodywork. First, the 5.5-liter is bored out to 5.9-liters (5,912 cc), a figure Brabus cheekily rounds up to “6.0.” The engine’s innards are gutted, replaced with forged pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, and remachined heads. The new 5.9-liter is fitted with “special Brabus turbochargers,” requiring reworked exhaust plumbing, including new manifolds, downpipes, catalytic converters, and intake. The engine likely sounds outrageous, with a special active exhaust controlled from the comfort of the cabin.

All of this tremendous power is routed to all-four wheels through Mercedes’ standard seven-speed transmission. A quick note on the torque figure: The madmen behind this tuning company claim that actual torque output surges to 1,069 lb-ft, but in the name of reliability, it is “restrained” to 848 lb-ft of torque. This motivation is strong enough to slingshot the S63 Cab to 60 mph in a breathless 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of 217 mph. With all the fire and brimstone under the front hood, Brabus says the drop-top is capable of more, but 217 mph is the limit of the standard tires.

As expected, Brabus adds a healthy dose of visual flair as well, including special carbon fiber accents scattered about the exterior, including a modified front and rear splitter. Large 21-inch wheels come as standard, with a set of 22-inch wheels offered at an additional cost. The requisite “Brabus” badging makes its way to both the front and the back of the car, while the inside receives only minor aesthetic touches.
