Aston Martin’s next-generation Vanquish could receive a significant power boost. Bosses from the automaker have confirmed to Auto Express that the new 5.2-liter twin-turbo V-12 found in the 2017 DB11 has the potential to make even more than its current 600 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.
For duty in the next-generation Vanquish, which is Aston Martin’s range-topping vehicle, the twin-turbo V-12 could make more than 700 hp when it reaches production.
Currently, the Vanquish utilizes a 5.9-liter naturally aspirated V-12 rated at 576 hp and 465 lb-ft that’s paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Aston Martin’s chief powertrain engineer Dr. Brian Fitzsimons revealed to Auto Express that the new twin-turbo V-12 is strong enough to push out more than 800 hp during testing while keeping its emissions relatively low.
Fitzsimons also indicated that electrification is a potential solution that he can utilize to add more power, hinting that there may be hybrid supercars coming from Aston Martin in the future. Limited-production models, on the other hand, are still in the cards and they could be powered by naturally aspirated engines. Next year, Aston Martin will release a new Vantage family, which is earmarked for a Mercedes-AMG-sourced 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 as its base engine. The twin-turbo V-12 from the DB11, which just began production this week, could be an optional powertrain upgrade.
