For those lusting after the style of a 1967 Shelby GT500, but want a car not horrifying to drive every day, Revology has just the thing. Starting with an officially-licensed 1967 Ford Mustang fastback replica body from Dynacorn, the Florida-based company has updated the pony car with modern running gear, creature comforts, and updated safety equipment.
“We carefully integrate modern technology to improve performance, reliability, durability, fuel economy, safety, and comfort, while retaining the essential character and style of the original design.” said Tom Scarpello, president and founder of Revology Cars in a statement,
Power for the Revology’s 1967 Shelby GT500 will come from the same 435-hp 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 engine as the 2015-2017 Ford Mustang GT. Scarpello says the modern Coyote engine makes 1.7 times more power than the Shelby GT500’s original 428 cu.-in (7.0-liter) V-8. The Revology Shelby GT500 is also said to weigh 550 pounds less than the current Mustang GT.
Scarpello insists his cars are more than just “numbers cars” saying they won’t overheat on a hot summer day inching along in traffic. Other details will be released closer to production. Like Revology’s 1964 ½ Mustang replica, we expect the 1967 Shelby GT500 replica to feature a modern suspension: front MacPherson struts and a three-link live rear axle (in place of the original car’s rear leaf springs). We also expect increased crash safety and modern conveniences such as LED gauge cluster and infotainment systems.
Although pricing for the Revology 1967 Shelby GT500 replica hasn’t been revealed, Scarpello expects his creation to cost about the same as what a well-maintained original Shelby sells for at auction. Scarpello insists that his customers will actually drive their cars. With Revology being (one of three companies) licensed by Shelby American to build authorized reproduction cars, the replica will be included in the Worldwide Shelby Registry.
The company builds various Mustang and Shelby replicas including a Shelby GT350 model.
