On the latest episode of “Ignition,” host Jonny Lieberman gets behind the wheel of the second-generation 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus with the hopes of answering one question: Can Audi’s supercar avoid the sophomore slump?
Not only did Lieberman want to find out if the R8 replacement can stack up against the original, he wanted to see if it was as good as its mechanically identical sibling, the Lamborghini Huracán. Every aspect of this supercar gets explored, from the design to performance on the street and track.
Looking at the numbers, the new Audi R8 V10 Plus gets a performance bump from the outgoing model, delivering 602 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque from its 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V-10 engine without superchargers or turbochargers. “When you’re driving the R8, you just want to be on the throttle. The engine is just so damn magnificent,” said Lieberman.
With a 0-60 mph time of 2.6 seconds and a quarter mile time of 10.6 seconds at 129.8 mph, it’s time to take the 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus to Big Willow and let professional race car driver Randy Pobst get behind the wheel. “It’s very controllable, but the understeer is actually downright frustrating,” said Pobst during his warmup lap.
