Report: Gas Station Chain Considering Adding Tesla Chargers

As the number of electric vehicles in the U.S. continues to rise, the current infrastructure of quick-charge stations will be overloaded, especially with the potential arrival of the more affordable Tesla Model 3. Now, a new report from The Washington Post outlines how Tesla is discreetly in talks with a major gas station chain to perhaps bring the Tesla Supercharger to your local filling station.

Speaking to The Washington Post, Sheetz’s executive vice president of petroleum supply Michael Lorenz confirmed the company is discussing the implementation of Tesla charging stations with the automaker. “We’ve had discussions with them about putting their chargers in our stores,” Lorenz told the Post. “We haven’t done anything yet, but we’re continuing those discussions.” The Post reported that Tesla declined to comment, but did confirm it is in the process of “courting” restaurants and gas stations for implementation of chargers.

Located primarily in the eastern region of the U.S., Sheetz stores are much more than a simple fuel station. Sheetz offers a stock of food, snacks, and products that are higher quality than regular convenience store fare, with more seating areas and services offered. This would be the ideal location for Tesla drivers, who would be able to sit down and relax while their vehicle is charging.

Sheetz already operates eight locations with general-purpose charging stations for both Tesla and non-Tesla vehicles.
