If you thought the 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R looked good in photos (or not), just wait until you see and hear it on the track. Mercedes has released a clip of the alien green supercar making its public debut on the famous Goodwood hill this past weekend.
The Mercedes supercar borrows much of its look from the race-ready AMG GT3, although it’s clear it has its own personality. The GT R boasts a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 that produces 577 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes estimates the car hits 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, and top speed is rated at 198 mph. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires wrap around the standard 19-inch front wheels and 20-inch rear wheels.
The GT R, dubbed “Beast of the Green Hell” since it was developed on the Nürburgring, will come to U.S. dealerships by mid-2017. Although we’re still awaiting price information from Mercedes, we expect it to cost a pretty penny above the $130,000-plus price tag of the GT S.
If it’s even possible, the GT R’s exclusive “AMG green hell magno” paint job looks even more brilliant in motion. Check out the video below to hear the GT R’s resounding engine growl.
