Hyundai, Mini Get Into the Super Bowl Spirit With New Ads

Super Bowl 50 is less than a week away, and automakers are slowly releasing their ads that will play during the big game. Hyundai and Mini are the latest to release short TV spots, with Hyundai bringing out the big guns with Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart. Mini goes in a different direction, delivering a powerful message.

Hyundai will highlight the 2017 Elantra and 2016 Genesis sedan in its set of four commercials, including a 60-second ad during the pre-kick time slot, two 30-second ads during the game, and another 60-second spot during the pregame show.

“Super Bowl Sunday is our opportunity to participate in the most-watched TV and live event in the U.S. This is our first Super Bowl as an official NFL sponsor, and we wanted to use a unique storytelling approach and A-list talent to delight and entertain the fans while showcasing the latest technology available in our vehicles,” said Hyundai chief marketing officer Dean Evans, in a release. “We are honored to be a part of the conversation during the most important day of the NFL season.”

Mini’s 30-second star-studded ad, which will air during the third quarter of the game, will deliver its message: “Defy Labels.” The spot will feature Serena Williams, Abby Wambach, T-Pain, Randy Johnson, Tony Hawk, and Harvey Keitel to authentically speak about overcoming labels and show Mini’s diverse personality as a brand.

“This powerful concept leverages the brand’s new sophisticated positioning, with a little bit of the MINI attitude that’s always been there,” said John Butler, chief creative officer of BSSP, the agency that conceived the ad, in a release. “It goes beyond a typical celebrity endorsement. This creative is all about not letting others define you, or for that matter, what you choose to drive. It’s about never giving others that power over you.”
