cars news 10: 2017 Karma Revero is Unveiled with $130,000 Price Tag and New Details

The revival of Fisker Automotive has been underway for quite a while. But after changing its name to Karma Automotive and rebuilding its executive team, the company has finally unveiled its 2017 Karma Revero, which carries a price tag of $130,000 and features a few updates from the car we last remembered as the Fisker Karma.

Karma wisely chose to leave much of the sheet metal untouched. Compared to the Karma, the Revero sports new wheels, tweaked front fascia, and a new badge design (which is apparently hand-painted). Inside, accent pieces are still made of reclaimed wood and Karma says the updated infotainment system is more responsive, features Apple CarPlay connectivity, and is capable of receiving over-the-air updates.

The powertrain still features a 2.0-liter turbocharged gas generator used to recharge the 21.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. The two electric motors still churn out 403 hp and 981 lb-ft of torque, which is powerful enough to propel the sedan from 0-60 mph in an estimated 5.4 seconds in Sport mode. Its all-electric range is limited to around 50 miles, though the Revero will cover a total of 300 miles once the gas generator kicks in.

The Revero is fitted with a 6.6 kW on-board charger (up from 3.3 kW) and Karma says the battery should reach full charge in 3 hours with a Level 2 charger. Plugging into a DC quick charger replenishes the battery to 80 percent of charge in just 24 minutes. Also new is its solar roof, which Karma claims will charge both the 12V battery and Lithium-Ion battery pack.

Karma Automotive, now owned by China-based Wanxiang Group, established a new production facility in Moreno Valley, Calif. and has plans to build another plant in China. The automaker is still moving forward with plans to produce other models including the Atlantic, a smaller sedan to slot below the Revero.
