A new gif is highlighting every single Porsche race car that’s won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, from the 917 KH in 1970 to last year’s 919 Hybrid. Among the automakers that have entered race cars at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Porsche is the most successful with a record of 17 wins in total. Porsche has raced the 919 Hybrid since 2014 and will continue to do so for 2016 after successfully winning the 2015 event and breaking Audi’s streak.
During the 1980s, Porsche had a seven-year winning streak at the 24 Hours of LeMans, spanning from 1981 to 1987. The automaker entered the 936/81 Spyder prototype race car to win in 1981, the 956 C LH from 1982 to 1985 and the 962 C LH in 1986 and 1987. During the 1990s, Porsche entered Le Mans with a variety of race cars, including the 911 GT1, which was also made into a road-legal sports car called the 911 GT1 Strassenversion and was powered by a 537-hp 3.2-liter twin-turbo flat-six. In total, only 25 examples of the 911 GT1 Strassenversion were produced so that the car would be eligible for the GT1 class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
