NYPD Crushes Illegal All-Terrain Vehicles on Video

The New York City government has released a video showing the destruction of confiscated all-terrain vehicles, including off-road motorcycles, ATVs, and even scooters. Police bulldozers were used to crush what looked to be a few dozen vehicles that were collected on a waterside lot to be destroyed. In addition to the video on Facebook, the New York City Police Department took to Twitter to remind citizens that illegal off-road vehicles will be confiscated and eventually destroyed if found on the streets.

Police officers were present at the site where they surveyed the vehicles destroyed by the bulldozers. Behind the row of vehicles crushed by the bulldozers, there looks to be another batch of motorcycles—likely confiscated sport bikes—that are also about to face a destructive end.

Comments on the video weren’t very positive towards the crushing of the vehicles. One commenter asked for an explanation why the vehicles had to be destroyed and couldn’t be sold or donated. According to the NYPD, all-terrain motorcycles and ATVs are illegal on the streets of New York City, and the force doesn’t want them to end up back on the roads for the sake of safety. The reply continues on by saying that firearms confiscated by the NYPD are also destroyed just like these all-terrain vehicles and that the city recycles the metal after the vehicles are crushed.

Check out the video below and skip to the 29:30 mark when the vehicular carnage begins. Tell us what you think: Should those illegal vehicles be destroyed after they are confiscated? Or should they have been sold or auctioned out instead?
