The IIHS has announced that the 2016 Lincoln MKX has received its highest rating of Top Safety Pick+. In order to qualify for the Top Safety Pick + award, a vehicle must have a Good score on all five crashworthiness tests and it must come with a front crash prevention system that earns an Advanced or Superior rating.
In the tough small overlap crash, the 2016 MKX performed will with a maximum intrusion of four inches at its lower door hinge pillar. Dummy movements during the impact were well controlled with its head hitting the front airbag and staying there long enough to allow the side curtain airbag to fully deploy and provide enough coverage from objects outside of the car and side structures. Optional front crash prevention systems in the 2016 MKX also received top marks from the IIHS as they were able to prevent a 12-mph and 25-mph collision.
Redesigned for 2016, the Lincoln MKX features advanced technologies such as adaptive full LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, and blind spot warning. Two engine choices are available, a 3.7-liter V-6 with 303 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque or a 2.7-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6 with 335 hp and 380 lb-ft.
