If you have gone a day too long without some gratuitous drifting footage, we have you covered. Usually, when we see drifting videos in any capacity, the eloquently smoking cars are Japanese or American, but we have dug up a Swabian treat for your consumption.
The bright orange Porsche 911 997.1 GT3 RS in the video fits right into the drifting sweet spot, with a heavier rear end, rear-driven wheels, and plenty of power. The car in question, manhandled by a certain “D. Rawberts,” is of the 997 generation of 911 before the GT3s swapped manual cogworks for Porsche’s automated PDK gear box, so there are plenty of over-dramatic downshifts going on.
While there is almost no chance this 911 is unmodified, from the factory the car came with a 3.8-liter flat-six engine, sending around 410 hp to the rear wheels. Inside, the pumpkin-colored Porsche is a bare-metal wonderland of exposed roll cage and race-spec seats.
From the looks of it, this particular GT3 RS is probably set up for blistering lap times rather than extended drifts, but the resulting oversteer is satisfying indeed. A deliciously raspy Mezger flat-six soundtrack is the fine cherry on top.
Take a look at the Porsche 911 GT3 RS slither its way around Willow Springs in the video below.
