Since the Zika virus was declared a global emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO) earlier this week, Tata Motors has decided to change the name of its similar-sounding Zica hatchback. The company has now invited the public to come up with new names via Twitter.
When Tata came up with the name a few months ago, it took the first two letters from “zippy” and “car,” but with the spread of the mosquito-borne disease with a very similar name, the automaker will need to come up with a new one to avoid associations with the outbreak.
In a statement released last week, a Tata Motors spokesperson shared more information on the Twitter campaign, which ends this Sunday. Twitter users have been proposing names using #FantasticoNameHunt, with proposed names including Zion, Breeze, Gizmo, and Zippy. The person who comes up with the final name will win either the vehicle itself, or a cash prize of equivalent value if based outside India.

Tata Motors released a short video on its Twitter page further explaining the naming campaign featuring the newly-launched car. The winner will be announced in the coming weeks, where Tata will relaunch its hatchback. However, the automaker is still using the Zica name during a current auto exhibition just outside New Delhi.
