With the recent news that DMC Texas will begin building brand-new DeLorean DMC-12 coupes in early 2017, the company has released its first commercial promoting the revived pop culture classic.
The commercial, titled “Lucky Coin,” begins with the phrase “…Because there is no time to waste.” Next, we see a young boy walking down an abandoned dirt road as he stumbles upon a lone DeLorean. The driver’s door opens by itself inviting the boy inside. As the boy closes the door and fires up the engine, the song “Make You Happy” begins to play.
After a scenic drive through a winding canyon, the boy pulls over and looks out over a cliff. As the recent events of finding and driving the DeLorean flash in the young man’s mind, he pulls out a half-dollar and throws it over the side of the cliff. The words: “I lived as slowly as I could…” appear on the screen.
While we have no idea as to the meaning behind the video or the significance of the quote, but the video seems to advocate driving your DeLorean slowly. The DeLorean DMC-12 was indeed a slow car, but we hope the new one has much more grunt than the original car’s 2.85-liter PRV V-6. In a previous post, DMC Texas’ vice president told us that GM’s 6.2-liter LS3 V-8 was one of three possible engines that could make their way into the new DMC-12 coupes. With more than 430 hp, a modern LS Series V-8 would provide a much faster-paced drive.
