Genesis Hires Ex-Bugatti Designer Alexander Selipanov

Genesis, Hyundai Motor Group’s newly launched luxury division, has brought another ex-Volkswagen Group designer into their ranks. This time, the brand announced that it has hired Alexander Selipanov, formerly of Bugatti and the man responsible for the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo concept and the Bugatti Chiron.

“I am sincerely excited about this opportunity, because it will be a new chapter in my career. As I have been working with well-established brands so far, Genesis is a new and refreshing challenge to me,” Selipanov said. “In addition, I am also honored to join this exciting journey, as it is a very rare chance to launch a luxury automotive brand and be part of its history. With growing expectations and curiosity around Genesis, I cannot wait to contribute my expertise and passion to the brand.”

Selipanov was responsible for the exterior design of a number of sports cars within the Volkswagen Group and was part of the team that designed the Lamborghini Huracan. He will be based out of the Global Genesis Advanced Studio in  Europe and will report directly to Luc Donckerwolke, the head of design for the Genesis brand.

After graduating from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif., Selipanov joined the Volkswagen Design Center in Potsdam, Germany. Before joining Genesis, Selipanov was Head of Exterior Design, Creative at Bugatti for two and a half years.  Earlier this year, the brand poached Sangyup Lee from Bentley and in 2015, it also brought Luc Donckerwolke on board as its head of design.
