Watch a Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2 Rip Around the Track on Ignition

There are many things that were invented out of necessity. Lamborghini vehicles aren’t among those things. Still, they serve an important purpose. Lamborghinis fuel our automotive fantasies with their seductive looks, intoxicating sound, and obscene amounts of power. Lambos exist to be nearly unobtainable objects of desire, but can they also be genuinely good cars? Jason Cammisa drives the 2016 Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2 on this episode of “Ignition” to find out.

The LP-580-2 is the rear-wheel-drive variant of the Huracan. The naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-10 is detuned slightly from the LP-610 to 571 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque, but Lamborghini says the rear-drive Huracan is the driver’s car of the lineup. Losing the driven wheels up front reduces weight very slightly, but more importantly it dramatically improves steering feel and turn-in. While all these things make an already good car even better, Cammisa notes that the Huracan still isn’t as good as its equivalent from the prancing horse brand.

To put Lambo’s driver’s car claims to the test, Cammisa drives the LP-580-2 to Club Motorsports, a new race track in New Hampshire. The track’s elevation changes simulate a winding mountain road, giving Cammisa the perfect playground to explore the rear-drive Huracan’s abilities.
