Oettinger Warms Up Volkswagen GTD, GTI, and Golf R

One car that’s been a mainstay of the modern customization movement is the Volkswagen Golf. Because of its low introductory price and solid performance credentials, it’s a car that receives much love from the aftermarket community. The latest entry is from German tuner Oettinger, which is launching a brand new body kit and several exhaust packages for the hatchback’s performance variants.

Made up of a front and rear fascia, side skirts, front splitter, rear diffuser, and rear roof spoiler, Oettinger’s body kit dials up the visual aggression of the GTD, GTI, and Golf R. Each piece also incorporates aerodynamic improvements that Oettinger validated in its own wind tunnel.

Additionally, Oettinger will offer three distinct exhaust setups for each of the three aforementioned Golf variants, including a quad-tailpipe setup for the GTD and GTI, and a more honed quad setup for the R. Each is larger than the stock unit and gives its respective Golf a more menacing growl. For the R, Oettinger goes a step further by offering a valve control that transforms the sound of the exhaust’s quiet whisper to an all-out growl on the fly via the car’s onboard computer.

Oettinger will sell the GTD and GTI kits through Volkswagen dealers for around $5,000. For the R, the price goes up to nearly $7,000. However, here’s the rub: Oettinger’s kits are currently only available in the U.K., and the company hasn’t stated whether or not it will start shipping internationally.
