Uber Driver Stabs Passenger, Says He Disrespected his Civic

An Uber driver in Michigan was arrested this past weekend for allegedly stabbing a passenger who he felt disrespected his 2012 Honda Civic.

According to Detroit Free Press, Uber driver Jacob Matthew Allemon of Berkley, Mich. accepted a ride request from a couple heading home from a holiday party. The man allegedly tapped Allemon’s window to let him know he and his wife were entering the car. Allemon considered the gesture as disrespectful to his Civic.

Allemon drove for a mile before pulling into a parking lot and demanding the couple to exit his car. The man apparently asked if they could remain in the car until another Uber arrived, and an altercation erupted shortly after. Allemon allegedly stabbed the man multiple times in the chest, back, and face. The victim was able to disarm Allemon and restrain him until police arrived.

The unidentified 49-year-old man was taken to the hospital and treated for his wounds. Allemon was arrested on the scene and has since been charged with “assault with the intent to do great bodily harm less than murder,” Detroit Free Press reports. It’s unclear what Allemon used as a weapon.

In an interview with Fox 2 Detroit, an Uber spokesperson reiterated that every driver is screened and required to pass a background check. “What has been described… is appalling and the driver has been banned,” the Uber spokesperson said. Uber is currently assisting authorities with the investigation.
