Many vehicles can be remotely controlled in some ways from a short distance, but Land Rover will let you remotely reconfigure the seats of your seven-passenger Discovery from anywhere in the world. If you don’t believe it, watch this video of Bear Grylls reprogramming the SUV’s seats while skydiving at 125 mph.
By logging on to the InControl Remote app, drivers can fold down the two back rows of seats in as little as 14 seconds on their smartphones. On the vehicle itself, buttons on the touchscreen as well as switches in the cargo area and on the C-pillar can readjust the seats, too. In addition to moving around the seats, drivers can also check fuel levels and adjust climate controls on the Discovery from a remote location.
The Land Rover Discovery, slotting between the luxury Range Rover and burly Defender SUV, makes its official debut September 28 at the Paris auto show. The video actually gives us our best look yet of the entire SUV since it’s covered in just a thin layer of camouflage this time. Previously known as the LR4 on our shores, the Discovery will make its way to U.S. dealerships in mid-2017, skydiving gear not included.
