Hyundai has big plans for its Genesis luxury brand. An Equus-replacing Genesis G90 and rebadged Hyundai Genesis (the G80) introduced the world to the new marque, and now the next all-new model is preparing for launch. Spy shooters have caught the Genesis G70 testing in Germany, and the sedan looks nearly ready to take on the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Audi A4.
Like the G80 and G90, this G70 prototype sports matte chrome window trim. The front and rear ends are covered up by camo, but we can see LED accents shining through. Though other mules have been spotted equipped with dual exhaust systems, this one wears a single dual-tip muffler. That could mean it’s a lower-trim variant, possibly powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder. Upper-level models should receive a version of the twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6 found in the G90. A hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive should also be available. The G70 could share its platform with the rear-drive Kia GT, which is rumored to debut at the upcoming Paris auto show.
The Genesis G70 is said to debut this year or early 2017. The G70 will join a crowded class that, in addition to the usual German suspects, also includes the Cadillac ATS, Lexus IS, and Infiniti Q50. Stay tuned for more details on Genesis’ 3 Series-fighter.
