See Why the Porsche 911 GT3 RS Lego Technic Kit is for Ages 16+

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is known for its high-performance capabilities while maintaining its street-legal credentials. Earlier this year, Lego announced a scale model kit under its Technic line for the track-focused Porsche. Now, the crew over at brickset.com has released its in-depth review of the new kit that shows us why it’s rated for ages 16 and up.

Inside the matte black box sits five more boxes of subassemblies as well as a 578-page instruction book and sticker sheet. The book, which is styled after an actual Porsche owner’s manual, is divided into five sections and includes 856 build steps in both English and German. The book also includes the history of the Lego Technic sets, the Porsche brand, and the 911, along with images of the real car and more. It’s a very nice-looking book, and it should be considering the kit’s MSRP of $299.99.

Box 1 contains much of the “mechanical” bits from the 4.0-liter Boxer flat-six engine with rotating assembly to the functioning PDK transmission with paddle shifters as well as steering and suspension components.

The second box contains chassis and interior parts including the roll cage. This is also where the drivetrain and other mechanical bits that are installed into the chassis can be found. Box 3 contains much of the exterior body panels, while Box 4 includes more body panels including the adjustable rear wing. The final (and unnumbered box) contains the wheels and tires.

The review also shows close-ups of the various mechanical systems and how they operate. For a more in-depth look at how complex this 2,704-piece kit is, check out the article over on brickset.com.
