81,000 2014-2015 Ford Explorer Recalled for Suspension Issue

Ford is recalling certain 2014-2015 Ford Explorer and 2014 Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles regarding an issue with the rear suspension.

The Problem: The rear suspension toe links may have been improperly welded resulting in a fracture. A fractured weld may result in rear suspension noise, difficulty steering, or a complete loss of steering control, which could increase the risk of a crash. One accident and one injury have been linked to the issue.

The Fix: Ford will notify owners to bring their affected vehicles to a dealer to have the left and right rear suspension toe links replaced and the rear suspension aligned for free.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: The recall affects approximately 81,036 2014-2015 Ford Explorer 2014 and Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles manufactured at the Chicago Assembly Plant. Civilian vehicles were built between January 17, 2014 and May 31, 2014, while police models were built between January 21, 2014 and May 13, 2014. The recall affects 75,364 in the United States and federalized territories, 4,615 in Canada, and 1,057 in Mexico.
