Spied: Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe Hides Behind Heavy Camo

A flurry of prototype Benzes hit the streets earlier this summer in Los Angeles, and now we’re getting a closer look at one of these new offerings. Our spy photographers caught the next-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe on public roads recently, showing off a bit of skin underneath its heavy camo.

Cleverly cloaked, the model appears to have a mesh grille in between the two new headlights. Creases on the hood hint at a more athletic design, although that part looks heavily camouflaged as well. Mercedes also did a good job of concealing the back windows, although it’s pretty clear the model receives a strong new rear end design. The prototype’s back end adopts a new rear wing and narrower headlights, while a makeshift panel over the roof hints at an elongated glass roof. Bold wheels finish off the look.

It’s still hard to tell what the E-Class coupe will eventually look like at this point. But expect the final product to mix together styling elements from the smaller C-Class coupe and larger S-Class coupe.

As far as the future E-Class lineup goes, expect to see some radical new technologies that inch toward autonomous driving. Car-to-cloud communication, multibeam LED headlights, and remote parking are just some of the new features rumored to arrive on the new E-Class. While the E-Class sedan is expected to arrive next year, we’ll likely have to wait quite a while for the coupe version. Also keep on the lookout for a convertible and plug-in hybrid variant sometime down the line.
