cars news 10: Tesla Model S 100D Rated to Travel 335 Miles on a Charge

Until recently, the Tesla Model S was rated by the EPA to travel no more than 315 miles on a single charge. But late last week, Tesla updated its consumer website and added a 100D model capable of 335 miles, making it the longest-range EV currently on sale.

The Tesla Model S 100D is $3,000 more expensive than the 90D model yet achieves 41 more miles of range according to EPA numbers. Tesla says both models can hit 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, although one has a 90-kilowatt-hour battery and the other has a 100-kW-hr unit.

As you’d expect, the 100D is slower than the top-of-the-line P100D, which can do 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, according to Tesla. But the new model is also $39,500 less expensive and achieves 20 miles of extra range from the 100-kW-hr battery. Buyers can opt for full self-driving capability on the 100D as well as a number of other goodies such as a Premium Upgrades package, smart air suspension, cold weather package, rear facing seats, and ultra-high-fidelity sound system.

Not to leave out its SUV, Tesla also brought out a 100D option for the Model X. Rated at 295 miles on a single charge, the Model X 100D brings only 6 miles of extra range to the SUV lineup. Tesla says the 100D can hit 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, matching Tesla’s estimate for the 90D.
