The few fortunate enough to have a pocketbook the size of a dictionary know they can afford the best cars on the market. Twelve-cylinder-powered convertibles are known to attract well-heeled buyers to say the least, and the Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet and Bentley Continental GT convertible have silver spoon-sucking individuals in their sights. “Head 2 Head” hosts Jonny Lieberman and Jason Cammisa find out which high-powered convertible gets the nod in the latest episode.
The episode starts with Jason Cammisa having a nice quiet cup of tea on the lawn of a New England mansion next to his white AMG S65. Suddenly, you hear the booming sound system of the very flashy Continental GT approaching with Jonny Lieberman behind the wheel.
Soon after, they play what they call, “Expensive Car Option Price Guessing Game.” They fail to accurately price some of the most expensive options, for example, the $7,595 Naim sound system in the Continental and the $71,500 AMG V-12 engine option (instead of the AMG V-8) for the S65.
However, this is “Head 2 Head,” so Jason and Jonny take half a million dollars’ worth of convertibles to Manhattan and on back country roads to determine the winner. According to Jonny, “Bentleys dominate the back road,” and Cammisa explains how he always finds himself accidently speeding while driving the Bentley. When driving the Mercedes, he enjoyed how the S65’s transmission would naturally blip when it downshifts and Jonny said, “This is shockingly fun.”
Will the $255,000, 621-hp V-12-powered AMG S65 be the victor, or will the $296,000, 633-hp W-12-powered Continental GT take the convertible title? Watch the video below to find out which quarter-million-dollar convertible wins.
