cars news 10: Genesis Introduces Smartwatch App

Genesis owners can control certain features on their vehicles via smartwatch, thanks to a new app available today.

The app, compatible with Apple Watch and Android Wear, allows drivers to remotely start and stop their cars, turn on climate control functions, sound the horn, switch the lights, and lock and unlock the doors. The new Genesis Intelligent Assistant app can also help drivers find where they parked and even remind them when they need to feed the parking meter. All these features are activated by voice commands, but drivers should first set up a Genesis Connected Services account to get started.

Genesis also has a mobile app that helps drivers keep connected with their cars. In addition to providing calendar notifications, the mobile app can play how-to videos, display vehicle diagnostics information, and send an address to the car’s navigation system. Drivers can even schedule valet pickup when they need to get their vehicles serviced.

As of recently, Genesis owners have been able to control their cars via Amazon Echo, Tap, Echo Dot, or Fire TV. By giving commands to Alexa, Amazon’s answer to Apple’s Siri, drivers can remotely control certain vehicle functions from the comfort of their homes.

Genesis currently offers the G80 and G90 sedans. It plans on offering six vehicles by 2021.
