Driver Crashes Fiat 500 During L.A. Auto Show Test Drive

Usually, the worst thing that can happen at an auto show is an automaker flubs a reveal on stage or a new vehicle isn’t well received. Unfortunately, things took a dangerous turn on Monday when a Fiat 500 crashed into a group of people on the street outside the Los Angeles Convention Center, where the L.A. auto show is currently being held.

While test driving a Fiat 500, a 24-year-old man drove onto a curb and crashed into a concrete pot in the 1200 block of South Figueroa Street, reports the Los Angeles Times. The pot shattered, and pieces of concrete flew onto people standing outside the auto show arena. Six people, including the driver, were hospitalized and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report.

Judging from the photographs, the Fiat 500 suffered major damage to the hood and front windshield. In the video below, you can see firefighters surrounding the red Fiat after the crash. The accident occurred at 1:13 p.m. yesterday.

This year, the L.A. auto show is offering test drives of around 100 different models from a variety of different automakers. Drivers are required to meet certain age requirements and have a valid driver’s license to get behind the wheel. According to a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department, the driver may not have been licensed.
