The Aston Martin DB11 ushered in a new era for the British sports car marque, and the upcoming all-electric RapidE sedan and DBX crossover will usher in yet another. But the Gaydon, U.K.-based automaker still has a few tricks left up its sleeve for the venerable VH platform before it’s phased out. Aston Martin has just revealed the 2018 Vanquish S, which replaces the standard Vanquish.
The Vanquish S uses Aston’s ubiquitous 5.9-liter V-12, but the engine is tuned to 580 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, up 12 hp from the model it replaces. The engine is mated to an eight-speed Touchtronic III automatic transmission that’s been revised to offer more refinement at low speeds and faster shifts. The suspension receives new damper internals and spring rates, and also gets revised anti-roll bar bushings to give the car a more sporting character while still retaining ride comfort.
The Vanquish S’ biggest changes are cosmetic. A new carbon-fiber-intensive aero kit that includes a front splitter and rear diffuser immediately sets the car apart visually from its predecessor. The rear valance is made entirely out of carbon fiber and frames a new quad exhaust setup. Also new are carbon fiber hood louvers, forged, diamond-turned five-spoke alloy wheels, and different painted graphic packs. The interior can be appointed with “Filograph” quilted leather and a stone-like Satin Chopped Carbon Fiber in the center stack.
The 2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S arrives in December, with the coupe priced starting at $294,950 and the drop-top Volante starting at $312,950.
