Acura’s big debut at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show was its Precision Interior Concept, a follow-up to the Precision Concept car that debuted earlier this year at the Detroit show.
As the name suggests, the concept is strictly the interior. Acura says it’s another demonstration of its “Precision Crafted Performance” philosophy, and says the cockpit’s design is “near-production” ready. Overall, the cockpit concept’s look mimics the NSX supercar, including its steering wheel design and simple center stack.
Acura says the concept is meant to demonstrate sporty intentions, as well as features for autonomous driving. Acura says one notable feature is the next-generation, Android-based operating system for infotainment controls and the two screens, including the 12.3-inch driver display in the instrument panel that shows a number of items including vehicle and trip data and video from a forward-facing camera. Another 12.3-inch screen is located high in the center of the dash and is controlled by a next-generation touchpad on the center console. Acura claims the touchpad is more intuitive than the touchscreen or remote-based systems used by competitors.
The automaker didn’t say which model will first get the Precision-influenced interior, though a good guess would be the next-generation Acura RDX crossover or perhaps the RLX sedan. Either way, it’ll roll out in a year or two.
