Alpine is getting ready to debut its Cayman-fighter. Until then, this video showing the Alpine’s sliding skills will have to suffice.
It has been several months since Alpine came out with its Vision concept car, featuring a mid-mounted turbocharged inline-four engine. The rear-drive Alpine could make around 250 hp, and is said to be 660 pounds lighter than the Porsche Cayman. While it may not have a rear-mounted engine like its predecessor, the new Alpine harkens back to the original A110.
Alpine hasn’t shown off the car’s final sheetmetal, but it is getting a jump start on orders. Alpine’s website says the company is taking orders for the “Premiere Edition” model, of which only 1,955 will be created. Available in blue, white, and black, the model is estimated to hit 62 mph in 4.5 seconds, which means it should be about on par with its rival. When we tested a 2014 Cayman S a while back, it was able to hit 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds. We have yet to test a Porsche 718 Cayman with the new turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder.
Watch the video below to see the Alpine in action, and check out Alpine’s website for more on the “Premiere Edition” model.
