The Ford Fusion sedan is part of a large recall due to an issue with seat belt pretensioners. Also involved is the Lincoln MKZ. The automaker says the recall includes more than 602,000 vehicles in the U.S. from model years 2013-2016.
The Problem: The automaker discovered that a cable within the seat belt pretensioners could separate, decreasing the effectiveness of the restraint system during a crash, which could increase the risk of injury. According to Ford, the cable may separate due to the high temperatures generated when the pretensioner is deployed. The automaker attributes two injuries to this issue.
The Fix: Ford says it will inject the pretensioner with a coating to protect it from exposure to high temperatures. The fix will be performed at no cost to the owner.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: The recall includes 602,739 vehicles in the U.S. A number of model-year 2013-2016 Ford Fusion sedans are affected, as well as 2013-2015 Lincoln MKZ vehicles.
