It’s been more than five decades since Aston Martin built the DB4 G.T., but that isn’t stopping the automaker from producing it again. Aston announced it will produce a new batch of DB4 G.T. cars, which will be limited to the track and a production run of just 25 units.
The DB4 G.T. race car was based on the road-going DB4 coupe and featured a number of track-focus modifications including a shorter wheelbase and the removal of the rear seats. Aston Martin built 75 copies from 1959-1963, and eight of those were special lightweight editions. All 25 of the new continuation models will be based on that lightweight version.
The continuation cars will also be built at Aston’s Newport Pagnell facility, home of the original DB4 G.T. According to Aston, the plant has been out of commission for almost 10 years and last produced the Vanquish S.
That said, the DB4 G.T. continuation cars will mix old and modern production techniques. They’ll retain the same tube frame design and aluminum body panels like the original cars, along with the the 3.7-liter straight-six (tuned to make 340 hp in the continuation cars), a four-speed manual gearbox, and a limited-slip differential. Additionally, the vehicle identification numbers will stay in sequence from the last DB4 G.T. produced.
Aston says the DB4 G.T. continuation car will roll off the line during the third quarter of next year. The automaker has also created a two-year international track driving program for customers.
