cars news 10: All-Electric Vehicle Based on Chrysler Pacifica to Debut at CES: Report

CES is becoming a popular event for debuting new vehicles, and Fiat Chrysler is expected to make an entry this year. A fully electric vehicle based on the Chrysler Pacifica minivan will debut at CES next month, according to a report from Bloomberg, which cites unnamed sources.

The new model could complement the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, currently the only plug-in hybrid minivan on the market. It has a total driving range of 566 miles, according to the EPA, and can travel 33 miles in electric mode. We have reached out to FCA for comment.

Last week, it was revealed that FCA wouldn’t introduce a new vehicle at the Detroit auto show in favor of making a debut at CES. FCA is expected to join Faraday Future’s first production vehicle, also slated for a CES debut. The show will be held in Las Vegas, and opens to the media January 3.

Bloomberg‘s sources also confirmed FCA is working on an electric Maserati sports car that will compete with Tesla. Previous reports say FCA is cooking up a Maserati Alfieri EV that is expected to arrive as early as 2020.

With its new Pacifica and Alfieri EVs, FCA is starting to warm up to the idea of electrification. FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne has held back in the past, and this past June, said electrification isn’t the “solution for all of man’s ills.” Currently, the Fiat 500e is the only fully electric vehicle offered by FCA in the U.S.
