The 12 Cars You Have to See from the 2015 Amelia Island Concours

A refrain we kept hearing over our weekend at Amelia Island was, “Man, this is my favorite event of the year. It’s so much more manageable than Pebble.” And while the comparisons to the Monterey Concours week are inevitable, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is very much its own thing. If one were to compare it to the West Coast’s automotive bacchanal, one might say it’s a distilled shot of everything that happens in on the Monterey Peninsula (aside from the races) crammed into one day. Sir Stirling Moss was honored, industrial designer Brooks Stevens’s old Cord carried the day, and Porsche’s oft-maligned 914 received a place of honor on the lawn. And if you didn’t care for any of that, there was still undoubtedly something to tickle your car-dork lizard brain. Click on to see what moved us. Porsche 914/6 Troutman Truck This car, turned into an El Ninefourteeno by Dick Troutman back in the 1970s, was one of the few Sportmatic-transmission 914/6s. Gunnar Racing’s Kevin Jeanette thought he’d have some fun with the mid-engined ute and further perverted Troutman’s creation into a widebody GT-spec truck, reimagining it as a phantom on-track support vehicle for the 1970 Marathon de La Route. Held at the Nürburgring, the grueling 84-hour race saw 914s post a 1-2-3 finish.
