Dodge has halted customer orders of the Challenger SRT Hellcat and Charger SRT Hellcat, as demand has overwhelmed the available supply. As reported by the website allpar.com, the company could reopen the order books in August.
In it’s official company blog, Chrysler last month warned would-be Hellcatters that some dealers were accepting orders for—and taking deposits on—far more cars than they could ever to be able to deliver. This recent move appears to be an attempt to curb that practice.

Chrysler says it currently has orders for more than 9000 of the Hellcat-equipped Chargers and Challengers, which is about twice as many as the company originally expected to build. Some 2200 cars have been delivered so far, and the current allocation system has dealers getting no more than one car per month. It remains to be seen whether and by how much Chrysler might be able to increase production. Meanwhile, buyers of these fast cars face a long wait.
