Two Hyundai generations ago, when some of us at Car and Driver were learning to drive, the Elantra looked like this. Now the sixth-gen Elantra, here in its first leaked photo, looks like this. All praise ex-Audi design boss Peter Schreyer.
With its mirrors folded upward BMW-style, this purported shot of the 2016 Elantra from Korea Economic Daily looks like the real thing. Hyundai wouldn’t say a peep, but given the big slatted grille treatment seen on the 2015 Sonata and the 2016 Elantra GT—the Euro-spec i30 not related to our Elantra sedan and departed coupe—it’s probably a given.

More proof, from what we can tell: Even if this Elantra is a Korean prototype, it doesn’t resemble this image of the 2016 i40 sedan, which again looks similar but is different than our Elantra (or, perhaps someone in Koera photoshopped the license plate). Hyundai hasn’t hinted when the next Elantra will debut. Hopefully, we’ll have official shots to share soon.
