Say hello to Russia’s latest battlefield bot. According to Sputnik News, a state-owned site, the robot seen here in a driving demonstration is meant to serve as a sort of field avatar for soldiers. Think of this four-wheeling helmeted friend as an android sent into combat situations too dangerous for soldiers. According to Sputnik, it’s being designed not only to fire weapons but also to render first aid.
The demonstration was part of Vladimir Putin’s tour of the Central Scientific Research Institute of Precision Engineering Tochmash, where the Russian president was given a tour and demonstration of new weapons, technology and armor. On its Facebook page, Russia Today says the “military is busy building autonomous tanks, unmanned vehicles, and other weapons one won’t be ashamed of in the 21st century.”

Still, the Daft Punk driving bot is drawing some less-than-favorable reviews (and disinterested glances from Putin, although there’s a distinct possibility he always looks that bored).
