Lincoln's all-new MKC compact SUV jumped into the luxury segment ready to duke it out with a growing number of small luxury utes. The MKC's healthy dose of style and substance proves it's capable of competing with the Acura RDX, Audi Q5 and the BMW X3. The MKC's sophistication is a big surprise partly because of its humble roots as a Ford Escape.

Cargo room is down slightly after the transformation from Escape to MKC, but it's still capable enough to make big grocery store runs and can fit a number of suitcases, golf clubs and strollers behind the backseat. As I noted in my 2015 MKC review,
"The liftgate encloses 53.1 cubic feet of cargo space with the backseat folded, down from the Escape's 67.8 cubic feet and a little short of competitors. The RDX has 61.3 cubic feet of cargo space, the Q5 gets 57.3 cubic feet and the X3 56.5 cubic feet. Like the Escape, an optional hands-free power liftgate (standard on high-end Reserve models only) can be operated by waving your foot under the rear bumper."
See how well the MKC fits common items in the cargo area, below.
