Spied! Lamborghini Urus Caught for the First Time

Our spy photographers have caught the Lamborghini Urus for the first time wearing its production body and it looks extremely close to the concept that was first unveiled at the 2012 Beijing auto show. Like the concept it’s based on, the Urus features an angular design and a roofline that swoops down the rear dramatically, giving it a coupe-like appearance.

Unlike the brand’s low slung supercars, the Huracan and Aventador, the Urus looks more conventional due to its more upright stance, four-door layout, and higher ground clearance. Key designs cues such as the angular headlights and the massive air intakes in the lower front fascia tie it to the rest of the Lamborghini family. Earlier this week, we reported that the Urus will begin production in April and that it will come with off-road capability.

The Urus will differ from the Huracan and Aventador in that it won’t use a naturally aspirated engine. Instead, it will utilize a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 as standard putting power down to all four wheels; however, the Urus will be the only turbocharged model in Lamborghini’s lineup as its supercars aren’t expected to move to turbocharged engines anytime soon. A plug-in hybrid variant will also be available, which means the Urus will be the first Lamborghini to utilize a hybrid powertrain. Look for the Lamborghini Urus to go on sale in sometime in 2018 and compete with the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and the upcoming Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
