2018 Toyota Tundra, Sequoia Refreshed, Debut New TRD Sport Trim

Toyota continues the tradition of debuting trucks at the Chicago auto show, showing off a new trim level, the TRD Sport grade, for the Tundra pickup and Sequoia full-size SUV. But more importantly, Toyota gives us our first look at the 2018 model-year refreshes for those models.

The current Toyota Tundra was first introduced for the 2014 model year at the Chicago auto show, but the Sequoia has seen few updates since it debuted in 2008. Both vehicles receive subtle styling updates and get new features for 2018. The Tundra gets a new mesh grille insert on some trims and a new billet-style grille on the 1794 Edition. Limited, Platinum, and 1794 Edition models come equipped with new LED headlights with LED daytime running lights. The Sequoia gets LED headlights and daytime running lights for all models, and each trim level, including SR5, Limited, and Platinum, sports a unique grille insert. Also new is the updated center console and redesigned gauge cluster, which gets a Multi-Information Display screen.

All 2018 Tundras and Sequoias come standard with the Toyota Safety Sense-P (TSS-P) suite of convenience and safety features, which includes lane departure warning, Pedestrian Detection, automatic high beams, and radar-based adaptive cruise control.

As for the TRD Sport models, they can be had in either four- or two-wheel-drive configurations. Both the Tundra and Sequoia TRD Sport are powered by a 5.7-liter iForce V-8 engine, which makes 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque, and also benefit from TRD Sport-tuned Bilstein shocks and TRD front and rear anti-roll bars. The Tundra TRD Sport is available in CrewMax and Double Cab body styles.

Other changes to the Tundra TRD Sport include body-color mirrors, bumpers, and hood scoop, 20-inch alloy wheels finished in silver with black accents, black headlight bezels, a mesh grille with body-color surround, TRD Sport graphics along the bed, TRD Sport floor mats, and a TRD shift knob. The Sequoia TRD Sport gets a new grille and front bumper, gloss-black mirror caps, 20-inch black alloy wheels, smoked taillights, black satin-finish TRD Sport and Sequoia badging, available black leather captain’s chairs, TRD Sport floor mats, a TRD shift knob, and TRD doorsill guards.

The Tundra TRD Sport is available in Super White, Magnetic Gray, Midnight Black Pearl, Blazing Blue Pearl, and Barcelona Red Metallic, while the Sequoia TRD Sport is offered only in Super White, Magnetic Gray, and Midnight Black Metallic. The refreshed Tundra and Sequoia debut in Chicago alongside the RAV4 Adventure. All three models go on sale in September.
