2017 Honda CR-V Enters Production in Indiana

To keep up with the growing demand for crossovers, Honda has expanded production of the new CR-V to an additional U.S plant.

The 2017 Honda CR-V entered production today in Greensburg, Ind., and becomes the first SUV ever built at that facility. Honda also builds the Civic sedan there. In the past, the plant has produced the Acura ILX and Civic Natural Gas.

2017 Honda CRV Production Begins Indiana

Last year, Honda promised to spend $52 million prepping the CR-V for Indiana. The investment helped move production of the CR-V from its previous home in Guadalajara, Mexico. The Indiana plant, which opened in 2008, currently has the capacity to produce 250,000 vehicles.

Honda’s plant in East Liberty, Ohio, was the first in the world to start mass production of the 2017 CR-V. The crossover model is also built in Ontario, Canada.

Considering how popular crossovers have become in our market, the CR-V could eventually overtake the Civic to become Honda’s best-selling vehicle in the U.S. The fifth-generation model went on sale earlier this winter with a host of new features, updated styling, and new powertrain options. The model offers a choice of two engines: a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine producing 184 hp and a 1.5-liter turbo-four making 190 hp. Prices start at $24,985.
