Faraday Future’s, um, future is uncertain, with the electric startup reportedly facing financial and production hurdles. Those problems haven’t stopped FF from pursuing motorsports, however. The EV brand partnered with Dragon Racing for the 2016/2017 Formula E season, and now it has an eye on this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
The company will enter its FF 91 production car in the Exhibition Class. That car was unveiled earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show, and is said to make 1,050 hp when equipped with three electric motors (one front, two rear). Behind the wheel will be Pikes Peak rookie Robin Shute, who has previously had success in open-wheel and GT cars. But the FF 91 won’t be the only EV competing in the special class. Unplugged Performance is entering a 2017 Tesla Model S P100D piloted by Formula Drift champ Daijiro Yoshihara.
This year’s hill climb will take place on June 25 and will feature many greats from Pikes Peak’s history, including former record holders Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima and Rhys Millen, and last year’s champion Romain Dumas. FF hasn’t given us any more details on its Pikes Peak entry, but we hope to learn more about it as the event draws closer.
