Ford GT Owned by Jenson Button Heads to Auction

If you can’t wait until 2018 for the order books to reopen on the new Ford GT, here’s an alternative. A 2005 Ford GT formerly owned by race car driver Jenson Button is headed to auction later this month, and it’s expected to sell for well over $300,000.

Button took delivery of this special GT in 2005 before eventually selling it. The current owner bought the car in 2011, and today, the GT has only 8,350 miles on the odometer. The highest bidder will receive a history file of the car including stamps, invoices from Mountune, and copies of the original order form signed by Button.

Powered by a mid-mounted, hand-built supercharged V-8, this Ford GT is capable of producing 550 hp. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and helps propel the car to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Top speed is limited to 205 mph.

Ford made a total of 4,000 original GTs by the time production ended in 2006. Only 101 were brought over to Europe, and of these, only five were designated by Ford as “VIP” models. Button’s GT is one of these “VIP” cars.

The Ford GT is headed to the Silverstone Auctions’ Race Retro Classic Car Sale, where it is estimated to fetch between 250,000 and 300,000 pounds, or roughly $313,000-$376,000 at today’s rates. The auction runs from February 25-26.
