Fallout from Volkswagen’s Dieselgate fiasco continues to present challenges for the German automaker’s many brands, with the victim of the most recent development being Audi. Citing Ingolstadt insiders, Reuters is reporting that several technology projects have been put on indefinite hold.
In addition to shelving a self-driving vehicle test track and a concept car battery facility, Audi has also parked projects related to a technology park at its HQ dubbed “IN-Campus.”
Audi is also scaling back development of traditional vehicles and is investing millions of dollars in a frantic attempt to go green. A new line of all-electric Audis dubbed e-tron is expected to reach the market by 2018, with the first model planned to be an electric crossover.
And if that isn’t challenging enough, Audi’s workers are also complaining about delayed investments in Germany and are concerned about losing more production jobs to the company’s Brussels and Mexico factories.
Reports that Audi may also pull out of racing have been rebuffed for now, but it looks like the race to get back on track will be a long one.
