This episode of Head 2 Head is brought to you by the country of Japan. Here to challenge the long-running R35 Nissan GT-R is the new Acura NSX, and hosts Jason Cammisa and Jonny Lieberman attempt to settle the battle on the road and at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
There’s no denying that both cars are super quick in a straight line. Both cars have very different ways of doling out power, with the refreshed 2017 Nissan GT-R featuring a more powerful 565-hp, 3.8-liter, twin-turbo V-6 and its fancy all-wheel drive system. The Acura, on the other hand, is a hybrid powerhouse with a mid-engine 3.5-liter, twin-turbo V-6 making 500 hp that’s supplemented by three electric motors for a combined output of 573 hp.
The comparison begins with the hosts evaluating canyon-carving ability and overall livability. Cammisa appreciates the GT-R’s quieter transmission, though Lieberman was a fan of the pre-refreshed tranny with its clunky sounds that added to the supercar experience. Both agree that the GT-R is a much comfier cruiser. Meanwhile, the NSX is knocked for its lack of storage, usable cupholders, and the essentially non-existent trunk. And while Lieberman is generally pleased with the NSX’s cornering abilities, Cammisa says it could be better considering its elaborate torque vectoring system.
Before making the trek to Laguna Seca, the hosts find a long stretch of road for a drag race. You likely know the outcome if you’ve watched the World’s Greatest Drag Race 6. If not, we won’t spoil the results for you. We also won’t reveal which car was faster around Laguna Seca, though we will say the NSX threw down a lap time of 1:36.36. You’ll also have to watch the episode to find out which car wins this Head 2 Head. Afterwards, head to the comments section below and let us know if you agree with the results.
