Mercedes-Benz Pickup Truck Concept to Debut October 25

We’ve only had renderings and camouflaged prototypes to go on for the last few months, but we’ll finally see the Mercedes pickup truck in concept form on October 25. Mercedes says the concept will preview the design direction of the production pickup.

The Mercedes-Benz pickup, which could be called GLT, is the product of a technical partnership between parent company Daimler and Nissan. The truck is expected to share a platform with the Nissan Navara, a midsize pickup sold overseas. Spy shots reveal a vehicle about the same size as the Navara but with a different grille design. Based on the teaser image, it looks like the concept will retain the crew cab configuration we saw on the prototype. It’s possible that the truck will get a Nissan engine, but it’s been said that the Mercedes truck will likely use the 2.1-liter turbodiesel I-4 and 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 currently available in the Sprinter.

When Mercedes first announced its pickup plans last year, it said the move was in response to global demand for midsize trucks, and that the vehicle would be available to both commercial and private buyers.

The concept will make its debut on October 25 in Stockholm, Sweden, when Mercedes says we’ll learn all about the global strategy for the pickup. Stay tuned for more details on the three-pointed-star-badged pickup truck.
