Spied! Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz CLS Shows off its Curves

The Mercedes-AMG GT Concept revealed at the Geneva Motor Show previews a new Porsche Panamera fighter, but a next-gen CLS, the Panamera’s original competitor from Mercedes, is still in the works as these spy shots show.

The front end is only lightly camouflaged, revealing a new grille shape featuring Mercedes’ signature diamond grille pattern and sleek headlights that are angled inward. It’s not as aggressive-looking as the four-door AMG GT concept, but it looks like it’ll match the rest of the car’s curves nicely.

The CLS maintains its raked roofline and narrow greenhouse, giving it a streamlined look. The body definitely has more bulk to it than the AMG GT concept, despite both being based on the E-Class platform. It’s possible, however, that the CLS has been lengthened to position it in between the E-Class and S-Class. That would leave room for a future AMG GT 4 model to go up against the Porsche Panamera, which leans more toward sport than luxury.

We also get a good look at the CLS’ interior. Not surprisingly, it looks very much like the E-Class’ cabin. We didn’t get to see the AMG GT Concept’s interior in Geneva, but it could take after the AMG GT coupe despite not sharing much in common with that car.

Check out the spy shots below and tell us which Mercedes four-door fastback you’re most excited about.
